So it’s an underwhelming surprise that the top two auditors have both been caught selling “Credits for emitting air that might-have-had-more-carbon-in-it, which might-have-been-checked by people who might-have-been-qualified to check these things”. Selling bridges in Boston has more respectability.

Uh-oh. Are we actually losing our market leadership position because we're careful?
It's entirely possible. Think of it this way: If you're growing at 50 percent a year, and your competitor is growing at 100 percent a year, it takes only eight years before your competitor is 10 times bigger than you. And when it's 10 times bigger than you, it can buy 10 times as much advertising and do 10 times as many projects and have meetings with 10 times as many customers. And you begin to disappear.
And they want us to hand over $6 trillion, on the basis that their quality control and homogenisation was perfectly done? Alchemy, anyone? http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/11/29/u-cru/#more-13371

I’ve spent 4 decades studying global climate change and as a scientist I am appalled at Krugman’s cavalier shrugging off the Hadley email scandal as ‘just the way scientists talk among themselves.’ That’s like saying it’s alright for politicians to be corrupt because that’s the way they are. Legitimate scientists do not doctor data, delete data they don’t like, hide data they don’t want seen, hijack the peer review process, personally attack other scientists whose views differ from theirs, send fraudulent data to the IPCC that is used to perpetuate the greatest hoax in the history science, provide false data to further legislation on climate change that will result in huge profits for corrupt lobbyists and politicians, and tell outright lies about scientific data.

Just finished reading the speech by Stephen McIntyre from climateaudit.org on the hockey stick graph. Fascinating stuff. How the hell is there no data to be audited but also there is no audit by IPCC on the main issues. Troubling
“When all else fails, manipulate the data”. That quote is on one of my t-shirts.
Australia is also under-compensating coal miners – they say to the tune of $10 billion or so – and transferring the cash saved from them and the electricity generators to low and middle-income households in the form of cash compensation.
This is a deliberate strategy by the Rudd government to buy re-election in 2013 through taxing the profits of coal miners and electricity generators.
Also, by low-balling the assumed carbon price, they are potentially understating revenues by up to $10 billion in the forward estimates. If the price turns out to be $35 for the 2013 federal budget, they will be swimming in cash for the election that year.
The 2010 re-election plan was handed to them by Malcolm Turnbull’s passion for emissions trading, and his decision to choose that over leading a united party to an election fought over climate change.
